The United Nations General Assembly has adopted a Philippine-sponsored resolution giving protection to female migrant workers against abuse and exploitation.
Since Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda devastated the Philippines, the U.S. has been directing much-needed food and relief aid to the country, but more needs to be done to move the Philippines from "Relief 2 Recovery"!

The First Global Summit of Filipino Nurses was successfully held last January 16, 2014 at the Manila Hotel. With the theme: Filipino Nurses Worldwide: Unite for Global Health and Nation-building, the summit brought together over 300 Filipino nurses from overseas and in the Philippines.
Last December 18, 2013, various government agencies and organizations related to migration came together at the SSS building, East Avenue, Quezon City to celebrate the Month of Overseas Filipinos and the International Migrants day. Parallel with the theme for this year’s celebration BalikPinas: Empowering Returning Overseas Filipinos and their Families and with the growing recognition on international migration’s positive link to development, the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) officially launched BaLinkBayan (http://balinkbayan.gov.ph/) the one-stop online portal for diaspora engagement. Through the portal, BaLinkBayan seeks to provide overseas Filipinos with the most comprehensive online guide for engaging in the development of the Philippines through investments, philanthropy, technology expertise and skills exchange, and special government services. Similarly, BaLinkBayan taps on the overseas Filipinos’ desire to improve the lives of their families left behind through the opportunities in their respective hometowns and provinces.
Recognizing the importance of media in promoting the interests and advocating the cause of Filipino migrants worldwide, the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) honored 11 outstanding media works from six countries during the 3rd Migration Advocacy and Media (MAM) Awards Ceremonies held at the SSS Ramon Magsaysay Hall on December 18, 2012, the International Migrants Day.
